How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Code Forum account by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password. Enabling 2FA is strongly recommended, especially for users with elevated permissions such as staff or moderators.

Step 1: Open Your Security Settings

  1. Log in to your Code Forum account.
  2. Click your username or avatar in the top-right corner.
  3. From the dropdown menu, choose Password and Security.

Step 2: Verify Your Current Password

Before making changes to your security settings, you'll be prompted to enter your current password for verification.

Step 3: Choose Your 2FA Method

Code Forum currently offers two methods for enabling two-factor authentication:

  • Authenticator App – Use a mobile app like Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator to generate secure login codes.
  • Email Verification – Receive a login code via your registered email address.

For the highest level of security, we recommend using an authenticator app over email verification.

Step 4: Enable Your Chosen Method

Option 1: Using an Authenticator App

  1. Download an authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator or Authy) on your mobile device.
  2. In the Password and Security section, select the option to enable app-based verification.
  3. Scan the QR code shown on the screen using your app.
  4. Enter the verification code generated by the app into the input box on Code Forum.
  5. Submit to confirm.

Option 2: Using Email Verification

  1. Select the option to enable email-based 2FA.
  2. You will receive a confirmation code via email.
  3. Check your inbox (and your spam/junk folder if necessary).
  4. Enter the code into the provided field and confirm.

Step 5: Save and Confirm

Once you've entered the required code for your chosen method, click Confirm or Enable at the bottom of the page.

Your account will now be protected with two-factor authentication.
